Description
Following along with project kits available from RenewSolar.
Original post: Project: Building a Solar Charge Controller with a UPS Module — RenewSolar
Suitable for 12 and 24 system voltages, this project provides the outline solution for keeping a battery at a good state of charge via solar or a grid charger.
The kit has the ability to switch between solar and grid power for charging automatically. (solar priority)
Programable charge voltage ranges for automatic on and off charging.
The aim of the project is a budget friendly simple charger which anyone can build to ensure that the battery SOC is held or provide charge when solar is not available.
A very basic and low powered AC coupled charger with solar.
up to 233 watts of charge is available with this project and the project has a very low level of complexity.
KIT:
Buck converter. (Vin 30v)
UPS Module.
Battery monitor and controller
Diode.
Not included:
Enclosure.
Fuses.
Wires.
Isolators.
Solar panel connections.
Solar panel and battery.
You will need a multimeter in order to set the voltage of the buck converters output, this should be set at the full charge voltage for your battery.
You will need to refer to the post for the wiring diagram.
The Monitor and controller has both a high and low voltage setting. This will turn off and on charging.
If you are using this along with another charge source (MPPT CC for example) you will need to fit a Diode to the connection of this project.
