Description

Main Article. Vic Kit – Base Energy Kit — RenewSolar

This is a build-up package to make entering to solar affordable and help save you money on your energy bills. The basis of the package is to offer a good stepping stone and upgrade path for you.
Ideally this package is suited for those with a low rate period on their energy bill, such as a EV tariff or Economy 7 or variable rates when you start with the package. If you do not have access to low rate, then you need to look at adding solar to make this “a good value package”.

The bundle comes with a Victron Multiplus II inverter charger which allows you to charge the battery from the grid and provide power to your home.
There is no direct solar connection which you can upgrade to later; if you are not on a variable  energy tariff you may want to consider solar from the outset.

We will be offering Charge controllers and solar packages shortly to give you a good look into the costs of solar, you can add Victron or other charge controllers to charge the battery from solar and we will give other options and ideas to make this all work for you.

The included battery is our 5.12kwh rack mounted battery, it has a JBD BMS and Gotion cells, Both are great quality items that work with the Victron energy  inverter and should provide you with 6000+ cycles, which is around 16 years of use.
You can upgrade the battery packs as you go, we would suggest that you consider buying a server enclosure to keep your battery packs in or you can wall mount them.
We think it looks nicer to have them in an enclosure. Each battery is 4U which is the measurement sizes used in rack mounting enclosures, for example a 8U will hold two batteries.

The Chicken and the Egg.
with the money you save, it is a good idea to reinvest into the system, you should aim to add at least 1 more battery. The reinvestment is a chicken and egg situation. If you add solar then the power you store is “free” and the savings greater. therefore if you add a battery or and solar this will change the dynamics of the value and return, as well export payments or not having export payments.

As you grow the system, you are likely to have 4 batteries, while you may feel like this is costly now, if you have a MCS solar installation and sell power, the ability to hold and store power for sale, will be a goal for that £1000+ annual return from this investment (return based on full battery cycle of 4 batteries).
