Solar installations vary in peoples minds as to what the process is, and for the most part solar comes in a wide range of “installs”. from the small system with a few batteries in the shed, to a more large scale installation of the home and also solar farms.
We offer a wide range of support online via various forums and groups, and I find some questions raise concerns over the installation and the competence of the person. Should they really be trying to do this?
There are people who “get the idea” but then they could make mistakes, even professionals make mistakes. When we do an installation there is a three fold testing procedure that we follow.
Solar installations can work and be faulty. They can also develop a fault. Some of the things I come across is a lose connection, this generates heat and while this may not occur for some time, this can happen and why an inspection is critical.
While Solar is typically regarded as maintenance free, it is not. Panel connections can become lose or may leak causing corrosion and heat and then a fire on your roof. Batteries can be unbalanced leading to low capacity and even result in damage. So not only is the installation important but also tests and checks on the system over the years it is in service. – its a good idea to clean your panels too.
I see the wrong protection used in systems. This is fairly typical where the installation is not normalised. for example the expected current and the rated current are two different measures, where as loads and balances can also be not what is expected, and of course there is then fault conditions.
We offer installation help:
installation help is a set of hands, and not the installer, but it keeps the checks and balance with an installation.

Do you need to supply the hardware to carry out an inspection?
No.
Do you carryout installation reports for faulty systems?
If you have had solar installed which was faulty or below standard and you need a report, this inspection is not the correct service, contact us for a consultation.
Will this sign off building regulations?
No. You would need a full installation for certificated installation.
Will you condemn a faulty system?
No, we will advise on the faults that we find as well as the risks, it is not an installation and/or certification service.
What if my inverter is illegal?
Many homes are using illegal inverters, we would fail them. Most are unsafe, but off grid systems are different and do not require the same standards as a grid parallel.
Do you inspect off grid systems?
Yes. We like off grid.
How long does it take?
Its going to take a few hours to complete, it can be much shorter for small systems and grid tied as there are less components.
