While battery installation might appear simple, safely upgrading your existing battery packs—especially for bespoke systems—requires precise technical knowledge.
Understanding Battery Systems
We deal with two main categories of battery systems: Standard and Bespoke Branded.
- Bespoke Branded Batteries: These systems present the most complexity due to variations in chemistry and cell configuration.
- Chemistry: Branded batteries typically use either Lithium-ion (Li-ion) or the safer Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP).
- Voltage: Systems can be configured from a high of 374V down to 48V.
- Cell Configuration: Even with LFP (which is generally safer and less prone to thermal runaway), manufacturers may reduce cost by using 15 cells instead of the standard 16, which affects the voltage and safe operation.
- Battery Management System (BMS): The BMS—the ‘brain’ of the battery—can be contained within the battery pack itself or in a separate controller unit. Crucially, the BMS must be compatible with both the new battery and your existing system.
- Chemistry: Branded batteries typically use either Lithium-ion (Li-ion) or the safer Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP).
⚠️ Important Note: Due to safety concerns and complexity, RenewSolar does not perform battery pack upgrades on existing Li-ion systems; we offer repair services only for Li-ion packs. We focus on safely upgrading systems with superior LFP technology.

Standard Installation & Upgrade Rate
Our standard day rate for any battery installation or upgrade labour is a flat fee, regardless of who is hiring us:

Potential Additional Costs
While we strive to keep costs low, some system upgrades may require minor additional hardware:
- Bus Bars: Some batteries may require a bus bar for safe connection (approx. ÂŁ20.00).
- Cables: Existing cables may need to be upgraded to handle the new battery capacity.
- Travel: Travel costs are calculated and added to the labour charge.

For most standard system upgrades, a site assessment or consultation is not needed.
