For many starting out in solar, it is a “testing ground” and you want to see what its like and if it works.. and how well it works. You may have started with the shed projects and small off grid solar? either way your now stepping up your game.
Starter, or small grid tied works by off-setting your load with the solar you make while keeping the costs low and the size small. There are two options Micro inverters and small string inverters.
Taking care to ensure that your selection is legal is often missed by those starting out. The cheap “ebay special” is probably the most I have had to inspect after the magic smoke comes out.

Micro inverters
A micro inverter is a small inverter that sits under the panel and converts the DC (solar) to AC power.

This can be costly if you have a number of panels or add to them over time, they are good for shaded panels and the output is AC only which is tided into your home. These are roughly the size of a optimiser, and also have a gateway ( controller) which is additional.
The upgrade path is rather limited as is the function. to store power you have to have a separate inverter battery unit, these would only be “power in the sun” units and “grid down they’re down”.
String inverters

A String inverter take the DC output from all the panels and converts this to AC for your home, there are fairly small, ( large shoe box) and have variable power out puts from 750w.
The benefit here is the low start up voltage on smaller models meaning you can have just two panels to get going. They have a higher voltage input, meaning more panels can be added, but they are “power in the sun” units and “grid down they’re down”. they cost the same as two micro inverters and have no additions.
Our Recommendation.
We would recommend small string inverters between 1000 -1500w they are low cost, they require few panels and they work to off set your power bill.
Example – 1000w offset 721-2200kWh Pa. (£230.72 – £704)
The small system can be fitted to a garage, shed or ground mount system. The mount system we wont include as you can have that optional requirement..
