Grants and funding for solar could not be more easier
Yes, the UK government is indeed offering green home grants. These grants are designed to make homes warmer and more cost-effective to heat. Here are some of the key initiatives:
- Boiler Upgrade Scheme: This provides grants to property owners for installing low-carbon heating systems like heat pumps.
- Home Upgrade Grant (HUG): HUG offers energy efficiency measures and low-carbon heating to low-income households living in poorly performing, off-gas grid homes in England. Successful local authorities receive grant funding to deliver HUG.
- Sustainable Warmth Competition: Funding is awarded to local authorities to upgrade energy-inefficient homes of low-income households. Different councils deliver this funding in various ways.
- Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund: This fund upgrades social housing stock currently below an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) D rating. Eligible properties will be contacted by their social housing provider.
Let’s explore the solar grants available in the UK:
- Green Deal:
- The Green Deal helps homeowners make energy-saving improvements, including solar panels. It covers insulation, heating, draught-proofing, double glazing, and renewable energy generation like solar panels or heat pumps.
- While you may be able to get a loan through the Green Deal, you’ll have to pay it back1.
- ECO4 Funding (2022):
- Smart Export Guarantee (SEG):
- Although not a traditional grant, SEG allows you to earn money by exporting excess electricity from your solar panels back to the grid. Energy suppliers pay you for the electricity you generate and export3. we would push you toward Octpus for better rates over SEG (fee applies).
- Welsh Government Warm Homes Nest Scheme:
- This scheme provides the possibility for households in Wales to receive free solar panels4.
- Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan Schemes:
It is worth checking with the local council.
Funds were given to all local councils to fund green homes and solar, but they haven’t been advertising it. You can apply, if you can find them they can be labeled under Living crisis funds, green home, Co2 funds, and such like.
On our shop, there are interest free options and installment payment options. This can help and you should consult with us for a upgrade pathway if you want to buy a bit at a time. Search our site for “solar pathways” for more information on how we can help.
